The challenge

Barnby Design were looking for a supplier to build a business to business relationship with. Someone who would take the time to get to know their business and suggest useful solutions to increase productivity. Above all, Barnby Design needed a supplier to rely on, whether for spare parts and consumables or simply for advice. With such high importance placed on their own customer service, it’s important the workshop runs smoothly at all times.


Customer profile

Contemporary furniture designer Robert Barnby launched Barnby Design in 2012 after graduating from Nottingham Trent University.

Much of Rob’s work is influenced by Scandinavian and Japanese design. Clean lines and subtle details are characteristics of his style and can be found throughout his work. In 2014 Rob collaborated with Dutch architect Alex De Rijke on the Wish List Project, which led to the design of a table being displayed in The Victoria and Albert Museum.

Rob is passionate about bringing natural materials into people’s homes. Many of his larger designs are made to order giving the customer the opportunity to tailor the design to suit them. For those who wish to see Barnby Design’s beautiful pieces for themselves, Rob often exhibits his work at furniture shows in London. Customers are also welcome to make an appointment to visit the showroom and workshop in the Welsh borders.

Dedicated contacts

Rob Barnby has been working with Axminster since 2009 and has always appreciated the great level of service. Nevertheless, it was after he launched Barnby Design in 2012 that he really started to see the benefits of a business to business relationship. Both Technical Consultants and Account Managers take the time to get to know their customers and their businesses to enable them to provide beneficial solutions. Ritchie is great and always gets things done when he says he will. He took the time to visit, helping him to understand what we do. Subsequently he was able to provide some really useful products we weren’t familiar with, including the Lamello Clamex Jointing System.

Axminster also provide a comprehensive guarantee on own branded machinery, which covers all parts and labour for the first three years.

Upskilling

Axminster offer an extensive range of courses in the Skill Centres. Rob would really like to make the time to attend a course in the future. In particular, a sharpening course, to ensure the continued high standard of his finished pieces as well as prolonging the life of his tools.
