Preparations for the 2017 FS (Formula Student) racing season are well under way at Cardiff Racing as the team gets ready to defend its 'best in Wales' and Top 5 position in the UK.

Members of the Cardiff Racing team, left to right John Dally (Volunteer Lead), Alex Goff (Team Lead) and Ben Leigh Fisher (Third Year Shadow) with ABST Account Manager Antony Jempson alongside the Axminster CNC milling machine on long-term loan to the team.

With a new Triumph sponsored triple 675 engine and ongoing engineering developments, the team has sets its sights on even better results at the main UK event to be held at Silverstone between 19-23 July. The team also hopes to compete abroad later in the year.

Team lead Alex Goff says "Typically we do very well in design and cost and last year finished second in business and third in cost at FS Hungary. Currently, car production is in full swing and the chassis/monocoque hybrid has finished manufacture and various other parts are now being machined and assembled.

"This year, with a new engine we will be looking to improve reliability and speed and so should perform better in the endurance race. Because of this, we are hoping for first or second in the UK."

The iKX3 CNC milling machine on loan to the team has most recently been used to manufacture a number of specially designed components including the pedal box and suspension mounts.
