The modern metal hand plane is a great woodworking tool but it doesn’t always produce the micro fine shavings we desire. A tool that is required to cut a really accurate surface requires some tender loving care! The fine tuning hand planes course is a one day course which covers the maintenance and tuning of these ‘workhorse’ tools.
What will you learn
Your tutor will give you a step-by-step guide on a range of tuning methods. You will learn how to level the sole, adjust the frog and mouth, sharpening, honing and general maintenance. Whether it’s old or new, we encourage you to bring your own hand plane (preferably metal), allowing you to go home with tools that are looking and performing to their best.
At the end of the course you will take home a Certificate of attendance.
You will start your day with a welcome talk, including a hot drink, health and safety brief and a breakdown and review of the equipment you will be using.
This is a ‘hands-on’ course, each student being able to work at their own pace. The tutor will be able to demonstrate and explain the techniques to the group as a whole and individuals as required.
The minimum age is 14 years old and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the course and must not be left unattended during class hours. If you would like to read our terms and conditions click here.
