Turn It Up 2017

In a closely fought contest, ‘Ten Turners’ 2014 champion, Richard Findley, won the ‘Turn it Up’ woodturning title at the Nuneaton store on Saturday. Richard was just six points ahead of 2016 winner Mark Sanger.

The Leicester-based woodturner excelled in the ‘Mass Production’ and ‘Weapon of Choice’ categories to have a handy lead as the final round approached. Despite a determined comeback by Mark, who scored a comfortable win in the ‘Finial Final’ challenge, it was not enough to overhaul Richard who emerged as a popular winner on the day.

A special turned trophy designed and created by Axminster Skill Centre tutor Colwin Way was presented to Richard, while both received commemorative ‘Turn it Up’ wall plaques.

Nuneaton store manager Jade Haywood said that the event had exceeded expectations with at least 70 woodturning fans in store by late morning. “Besides our regulars we had a number of new customers in the store who were impressed by the size of the store, our choice of tools and machines and the exceptional quality of woodturning from both Richard and Mark. I think we can expect to see many of them back in store soon.”

An Axminster starter kit chuck package valued at nearly £180 was offered as an audience participation prize and resulted in a number of new Axminster email club sign-ups. The lucky draw winner was John Orton of Nuneaton who will collect his prize from the store later in the week.
