Saturday 29th July – We have top international woodturner and Skill Centre Tutor Jason Breach in store sharing his skills and advice using the Axminster Trade Series 1628VS lathe.
We’ve attracted a good deal of interest at our Flexcut carving station at the entrance to the store and have introduced several customers to this absorbing and creative hobby. Our Axcaliber saw promotion is set up and ready for our customers. Come in and get to grips with these razor-sharp, precision hand saws. We may be giving one or two away …
Deputy Store Manager Matt McAuley supported Skill Centre Tutor Jason Breach and Training Manager Craig Steele at the popular Axe Vale Show recently, helping to sign up a number of training course bookings.
Late in June we hosted students of the South Devon College in Paignton. It was great to see so much enthusiasm and to hear that the store was ‘like nothing else’ they had seen. We look forward to seeing them back in store soon.
We are creating more work stations in store so that you can get to grips with our products. This is our decking station where you can try out our new stainless steel decking screws using a Bosch drill driver and the easy-turning Torx driver bits.
Sales Advisor and student at Rycotewood College, Matt Estlea, recently won an award for excellence in craftsmanship from the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers. The award was made based on two of Matt’s pieces – a spalted beech cabinet and his bespoke workbench. Well done Matt!
Saturday 1st July – Axminster Skill centre tutor and all-round woodworking maestro Jason Breach turns his hand to routing, demonstrating a range of dovetailing techniques and raised panel door construction.
Thursday 27th July – Festool professional Jon Stead will be in store to answer your product questions and provide an opportunity to get hands on with these premium power tools.
There’s been plenty of interest in our Japanese hand saws which are ready to use at one of our interactive benches. Why not come in and try these precision ‘pull’ hand saws for yourselves?

We’re good friends with the Glamorgan Woodturning Club which is well-stocked with Axminster machines and we were very happy to drive a little way to deliver their new bandsaw and pillar drill. We look forward to seeing them in store again soon.

Saturday 15th July – Using the Axminster Trade Series EX-16 scroll saw, store specialist Stacey Davies shows how to make an attractive collapsible basket.
Saturday 29th July – Talhah demonstrates how to make smaller, precision components with the new UJK Technology OTORO compact palm router table.
We’re making good progress with our new ‘rustic’ Live Workshop which is set up to single garage space and we look forward to welcoming customers to try a range of tools and machines in this safe and supervised environment.
Sales Advisor Andre May has just completed training with international Lamello demonstrator Marco Ress and is very much our ‘go to’ expert on how precision Lamello jointing systems can save you time and money.
Chris Kirk has attended Bambi compressor training – come along and ask him about these quiet-running, efficient machines.
Friday 28th July – Join us for our first ‘Woodworking Friday’ session of the summer holidays as we invite customers to come along and learn basic woodworking skills. We’re open to visits from children (recommended between ages 5-13) who must be be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
We have a number of interactive work stations now up and running at the store and invite all our customers to come in and get hands on.
We’re very pleased to have the support of Steven (Stevie) Taylor, recently appointed Technical Consultant for the Northern Region. Stevie has extensive product knowledge and is particularly keen to promote the Lamello jointing system to our commercial customers. We’d also like to draw attention to ongoing roadworks around the Norham Road Bridge nearby. Getting to the store may involve a slight detour but we are very much open for business and the trip will always be worthwhile!
Saturday 15th – Sunday 16th July – Members of our team are at the UK & Ireland Woodturning Symposium (UKIWS) in Coventry with plenty of guidance and advice on the tools and techniques you need to develop your woodturning skills.
We have one of our rugged Sjobergs benches set up in store with Japanese hand saws and Shinto two-handed saw rasps ready for you to use. Come in and try these unique tools as alternatives to traditional ‘Western’ style saws and rasps.
We extend a warm Nuneaton welcome to a new member of the team – Richard Andrew. As keen illustrator with good practical skills, we are looking forward to Richard bringing creative project ideas and know-how to our customers.

Jason and Store Manager David Johns visited Kent University in Canterbury in June and demonstrated pen turning to the TinkerSoc society. We’ve had very positive feedback and thanks for having us. If you belong to a club or society and would be interested in a visit then please get in touch. We’ll do our best to provide a demonstration and a chat about tools and machines of your choice.
