To inspire you to make a start on a new hobby and all the creative rewards this brings, why not try your hand at woodcarving? Our in-store experts will demonstrate the tools and techniques needed to begin carving and on the day we’ll be offering great discounts on some of our most popular Flexcut carving sets – a brand favoured by novice and experienced carvers around the world.
Don’t miss this chance to start a rewarding journey into woodcarving – and into many new creative ideas for Christmas. See you there!
We have really enjoyed meeting so many budding young woodworkers via our Beat The Boredom programme, this summer. With the school holidays coming to an end those of you that were the ‘accompanying adults’ could be about to have a lot more free time on your hands – sounds like a good time to take up a new hobby of your own! If any of the projects inspired you please ask in-store and we will be happy to put on some free taster sessions just for you!
It was great to see so many customers benefiting from our 10% offer as well as taking the time to enjoy the legendary turner Jason Breach – who didn’t disappoint. The winner of the 1-2-1 tuition morning with Jason is Mr Nigel Coleman – congratulations!
Thanks to one of our new members Paul Brown who arranged for a number of us to visit the Axminster Tools showroom in Nuneaton for a familiarisation session on the use of the bandsaws, this did prove to be extremely useful although a few of us came away with a new bandsaw on our Christmas present wish list.
With September comes the official start of Autumn (23rd), we’re a little downcast about losing the warm evenings but not for long as here at HQ in Devon one of our favourite pastimes begins – the cider harvest! (Well you have to fill your downtime doing something, right?) But it’s not all about replenishing our liquid stock, we are ever conscious of our environmental impact and helping to restock trees in our local area seems a great place to start. The Tree Council charity are running a seed gathering harvest from the 23rd September with the aim of inspiring communities to gather seeds, fruits and nuts and grow the trees of the future.
“Growing trees from local seed can have great benefits in restocking areas with trees of local provenance. The concept of local provenance suggests that trees that are adapted to the local circumstances and so are likely to flourish and help restore, conserve and beautify local urban and rural spaces.”
Collecting seeds and growing trees is also a great way to get children involved and start growing the next generation of tree enthusiasts. If you’re interested in getting involved, you can find events on the Near You map.
Do you know… Axminster’s Formula?
For the past two years, Axminster has given support to Cardiff Racing (part of Cardiff University) lending the team an iKX3 CNC milling machine. Earlier this year, Axminster began to give support to Newcastle Racing which is part of Newcastle University. The team now have full use of a KC6S lathe and KX3S mill. Both teams built new cars for the Formula Student Silverstone event held on the 11-15th July. To find out how they got on read the full article here:
The Axminster iKX3 mill again this year has been a lifesaver. It’s been manufacturing parts all year, the only limiting factor being the physical size of the machining area. Some of the larger parts I had to make on the bigger machines. I would say the iKX3 has made over 60% of the machine parts on the car using a solid cam machining software
