Monday 2nd April – The first in a new series of ‘Matt on Mondays’ demonstrations. The accomplished Matt Estlea will be starting with a tool chest project, where his focus will be on material preparation, planing by hand and machine, squaring off stock, measuring and marking, and edge jointing. This will be an ongoing project over the coming weeks moving at the pace of “what Matt can achieve in a day with regular tea breaks.” Matt can be found in the Basingstoke store’s Live Workshop next to our free coffee machine.
CANCELLED Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th April – Join us for the Miniature Steam Gala at the Viables Craft Centre. A two-day event to show model traction engines, road vehicles and similar steam models operating in the open air. We’re excited to be involved as the event is always a delight for both steam enthusiasts and families looking for a fun day out.
Sunday 8th April – Come and get inspired by Colin and Richard from the Surrey Association of Woodturners who will be in store demonstrating on the Axminster Trade Series AT1416VS lathe and offering advice and tips for woodturners of all standards. They will be focusing on winged bowls and off centre turning.
Saturday 14th April – Our in-store demonstrator, Steve Shelbourn, will be taking you through all the features and benefits of the Axminster Trade Series AT129PT Planer Thicknesser. On the day, Steve will focus on machine setup, first cuts, problem-solving and useful accessories for this machine. So, if you’re thinking of purchasing a planer thicknesser anytime soon, be sure to come to this demonstration between 10:00 and 15:00. For even more about the AT129PT, why not find out why Jamie, from Atelier Cabinet Makers, went spiral.
Saturday 28th April – Join us for the second of our ‘Back To Basics’ series. We’ll take a closer look at one of the oldest and most trusted tools in the woodworker’s chest – the hand saw. Still a favourite of skilled trade professionals, hand saws provide precision, speed and convenience which often rivals the performance of power saws. Come along and rediscover the versatility of hand saws with chats throughout the day.
Throughout April we will again host free demonstrations by a master of intricate turning, Anna-Marie Bennett. Make sure you don’t miss the miniature mastery of Anna-Marie every Friday between 10am-3pm.
Sales Advisor, Tom Stokes, has been attracting interest with his bandsaw demonstrations. If you would like advice on the correct setup and use of your bandsaw, please pop in – our store sales team is always ready to help.
Despite the recent heavy snow, the store made every effort to keep the doors open for customers willing to brave the elements and make sure their home projects moved ahead. Well done to the team for making it in and keeping the car park clear!
