Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th April – Carve Out a New Hobby. We are excited about being part of BBC Wales Gets Creative with a fantastic weekend planned for those interested in learning about carving. The British Woodcarvers Association (South Wales Region) will be in store covering all aspects of woodcarving and demonstrating techniques to help you get started. You will have a chance to try out some tools all under the guidance of the tutors. With over 20 years of carving experience each, the demonstrations are sure to inspire!
Saturday 28th April – We are looking forward to a particularly lively and dynamic day with not one but two events running between 10am-4pm.
- Join us for the second of our ‘Back To Basics’ series. We’ll take a closer look at one of the oldest and most trusted tools in the woodworker’s chest – the hand saw. Still a favourite of skilled trade professionals, hand saws provide precision, speed and convenience which often rivals the performance of power saws. Come along and rediscover the versatility of hand saws.
- Good news for woodturning enthusiasts, Phil Irons will be demonstrating tools from Woodcut. Phil is well established in both the UK and international woodturning scene, so this is a great opportunity to see a master of his craft at work. To find out more about Phil, visit his website.
Our customers enjoyed a highly entertaining and informative day with the British Woodcarvers Association, with many customers getting involved. We look forward to having them back in the store in April.
We were delighted to welcome so many enthusiasts to the store to see professional woodturner Richard Findley, the demonstrations were so captivating that many people stayed all day! Thankfully our coffee station was fully stocked to keep everyone watered!
Despite recent adverse weather conditions, the store has been open as usual. It seems to have brought out the hoarder in us all and we’ve seen our promotional products being stripped from the shelves. Most popular uptakes have been the Jet JBM-5 Bench Morticer (was £373.86 now £270.00), the Fuji Q4 Platinum Turbine Unit (was £759.48 now £550.00) and the Tormek T4 Bushcraft Edition (was £319.36, now £250.00). We still have stock left of these items and others on our clearance table, so come and stash away a deal or two!
A particular personal highlight this month was helping to surprise a customer with an engineering lathe. Mr Blake had no idea that his wife and son had accompanied him to the store to present him with the birthday gift they’d bought him. The pure joy and absolute surprise on his face was unforgettable!
Good news for our ‘hands on’ enthusiasts; we’ve just opened our new Sharpening Station, built from recycled timbers and featuring Tormek sharpening systems and a range of hand sharpening accessories. Come along and try them for yourself!
And news just in – Cardiff store has been chosen as a finalist in the DIY Week New Team of the Year category with the winner to be announced at a special awards ceremony in London on 11th May. Well done to all of the team for making our entry possible and fingers crossed for a victory on the night!
