Saturday 31st March – Hopefully you’re reaching the finishing stages of your Make In March project. Don’t forget to bring it into the store this Saturday for a chance to win a Rider No.4 plane!
Saturday 7th April – Ernie Raisbeck will be in store and using the Axminster trade bandsaw to demonstrate his woodworking skills. Ernie makes bespoke items such as small trinkets and boxes as well as small drawers. He has been a regular in store for some time and we are looking forward to seeing what is possible to achieve on the bandsaw.
Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd April – For the first time we would like to welcome Chris Fisher ‘The Blind Woodturner’ to the North Shields store. Chris is one of only three totally blind woodturners on the professional woodturning scene and he will be demonstrating turning techniques. Chris produces fantastic work and his story is truly inspirational, proving that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. This will be an amazing weekend of woodturning and should not to be missed.
Saturday 28 & Sunday 29 April – Join us for the Maker Faire UK at the Life Science Centre in Newcastle. A two-day family friendly festival of invention and creativity, it brings together over 300 hackers, crafters, coders, DIYers and garden shed inventors from across the globe. Be prepared to be inspired and look out for Axminster’s stand where we will be demonstrating pyrography as well as scroll sawing, with some great deals to be had!
Saturday 28th April – Join us for the second of our ‘Back To Basics’ series. We’ll take a closer look at one of the oldest and most trusted tools in the woodworker’s chest – the hand saw. Still a favourite of skilled trade professionals, hand saws provide precision, speed and convenience which often rivals the performance of power saws. Come along and rediscover the versatility of hand saws.
In March, we hosted the ‘Tall Australian’ Phil Irons in store, demonstrating the Woodcut Bowlsaver MAX3. This was a popular event with Phil providing an entertaining demonstration on the Axminster AT1628 lathe. Whilst showcasing his distinct creativity, Phil encourages customer contributions and I think we all learned something new. We look forward to his return!
Despite recent adverse weather conditions we only had to close our doors for three hours but I would still like to say thank you for your understanding at that time.
Stephen Metcalf, Deputy Store Manager, attended a 2-day Router Course at our skill centre, he is so keen to pass on his knowledge that we will be setting up a router table in our workshop. Come along and get some handy tips on how to set up different routers and what you will need for different profiles. We have a lively few weeks planned and look forward to welcoming you and spring (related questions) into the store!
