Saturday 28th April – Don’t forget to come into the store this Saturday for not one but two events. Phil Irons will be demonstrating tools from Woodcut whilst we also run the second of our ‘Back To Basics’ series. We are also pleased to announce the RNLI will be in store showing off a boat and we’ll be raffling off some wooden creations made by our staff. What a busy day! Please feel free to drop in at any time between 10am – 4pm.
Saturday 5th May – Sunday 6th May– Join us at the Makers Central at the NEC in Birmingham. ‘Uniting Creativity’ is the catchphrase and the show aims to bring together makers from lots of different disciplines. Among those demonstrating and displaying their work will be woodturners, carvers, furniture makers, metalworkers, artists, designers and inventors. Axminster will be sending some of our most highly skilled makers from the Axminster Skill Centre and various stores. Our very own Katie Reid will be there demonstrating scroll sawing and pyrography whilst overseeing the creative corner. The Axminster stand is directly opposite the ‘YouTube Makers Zone‘ so pop along and see us.
Saturday 12th May – Join our in-store expert, Stephan Parker, as he demonstrates how to set up your bandsaw correctly using the Axminster Trade Series SBW4300B. He will also show you how to change the blades as well as how to get the most out of the machine, including the use of the innovative UJK Technology Bandsaw Buddy.
Saturday 19th May – We are looking forward to a particularly lively and dynamic day with two events running between 10am-4pm.
- Have you got a paint/finishing project to do? Painting with a sprayer is much faster than using a brush or roller and gives a smooth finish and there is no better time to buy than now. Fuji, the innovative and trusted suppliers of HVLP paint spraying equipment, are offering a FREE spray gun with any purchase of the Fuji Spray® Q5 PLATINUM™*. But the offer doesn’t end there, in store we are offering a FREE advice service on set up (including paint thinning recommendations) and practical tips so that you can produce a professional finish every time
- A fantastic day for those interested in carving. We have the British Woodcarvers Association (South Wales Region) in store. Using Flexcut tools to carve, Mirka Abranet to finish and many other brands, they will cover all aspects of woodcarving and demonstrate techniques suitable for the beginner and the professional.
Saturday 26th May – In the third of our ‘Back to Basics’ series, we take a closer look at hand chisels, which are amongst the oldest tools in the chest yet are still considered essential to woodworking professionals and hobby enthusiasts alike. Throughout May, our experts will guide you towards crafting those classic joints including dovetails and mortices – and teach you how to sharpen your chisels with repeatable accuracy. Join us in store on the 26th for our national chisels and sharpening demonstration – anytime between 10am and 4pm. See you there!
Our Easter egg workshop was a great success and very much enjoyed by all that attended. Beautiful eggs, chicks, rabbits and more were created with scroll saws and pyrography. If you’re feeling inspired we have one EX-21 scroll saw left in store with over £100 off RRP.
The May bank holidays will soon be here and if you’re planning to tackle those nagging DIY projects we have the tools to help and a live workshop, so you can try before you buy!
For some of you, the long weekends will inspire creativity and we have a beautiful selection of timber to get you started. Perhaps you have a more practical project in mind, our in-store experts are on hand to offer advice or guidance.
Personally, I have had a busy few weeks preparing my outdoor furniture to get it summer ready, so I will be spending the first bank holiday relaxing in the sun, I hope!
Did you know…
We’ve been supporting The Furniture Makers’ Company for many years. Axminster’s Managing Director Alan Styles has recently been made a liveryman, moving up from the position of corporate liveryman, which he became in 2013. Alongside Alan, Axminster’s Sales Director Darran McLeod was also admitted to the Furniture Makers’ Company as a corporate liveryman.
“I feel honoured to have been made a liveryman of The Furniture Makers’ Company. The Company carries out invaluable work in education, supporting and promoting promising young furniture makers. Its other charitable work includes lending a helping hand to those in need who have worked in the furniture industry, in the form of grants, services and time. We at Axminster are pleased to be able to work with and support such a highly regarded organisation” – Alan Styles
