Saturday 28th April – Don’t forget to come into the store this Saturday for the second of our ‘Back To Basics’ series. Please feel free to drop into this demonstration at any time between 10am – 4pm – we’ll be serving up bite-size Back to Basics info throughout the day!

Saturday 12th May – As the bandsaw is probably the most useful and versatile machine in the workshop, this demonstration is a must for all those who have just acquired or recently changed their bandsaw. Phil Catterall, our in-store demonstrator, will show you how to get the most out of the machine and ensure you get the perfect cut every time!

Saturday 19th May – Have you got a paint/finishing project to do? Painting with a sprayer is much faster than using a brush or roller and gives a smooth finish and there is no better time to buy than now. Fuji, the innovative and trusted suppliers of HVLP paint spraying equipment, are offering a FREE spray gun with any purchase of the Fuji Spray® Q5 PLATINUM™*. But the offer doesn’t end there, in store we are offering a FREE advice service on set up (including paint thinning recommendations) and practical tips so that you can produce a professional finish every time. Come along to the store anytime between 10am and 4pm.

Saturday 26th May – We are looking forward to a particularly lively and dynamic day with two events running between 10am-4pm.

  • We’re very pleased to welcome Joey Richardson back to the store between 10:00-16:00 to share her passion for woodturning. Joey is a well known and respected woodturner who teaches and gives demonstrations throughout the UK and the USA. She will be demonstrating her innovative techniques in woodturning with elements of spraying, power carving and texturing.
  • In the third of our Back to Basics series, we take a closer look at hand chisels, which are amongst the oldest tools in the chest yet are still considered essential to woodworking professionals and hobby enthusiasts alike. Throughout May, our experts will guide you towards crafting those classic joints including dovetails and mortices – and teach you how to sharpen your chisels with repeatable accuracy. Join us in store on the 26th for our national chisels and sharpening demonstration – anytime between 10am and 4pm. See you there!

Manager’s message

The May bank holidays will soon be here and if you’re planning to tackle those nagging DIY projects we have the tools to help and test stations available, so you can try before you buy! For some of you, the long weekends will inspire creativity, after hosting two of the UK’s top woodturners, Tracy Owen and Colwin Way in store last month, I imagine lots of you will be at your lathes with renewed vigour.

Personally, I’m aiming to get out in the garden and enjoy the patio furniture I recently overhauled ready for summer. Let’s hope it’s sunny!

Did you know…

We’ve been supporting The Furniture Makers’ Company for many years. Axminster’s Managing Director Alan Styles has recently been made a liveryman, moving up from the position of corporate liveryman, which he became in 2013. Alongside Alan, Axminster’s Sales Director Darran McLeod was also admitted to the Furniture Makers’ Company as a corporate liveryman.

“I feel honoured to have been made a liveryman of The Furniture Makers’ Company. The Company carries out invaluable work in education, supporting and promoting promising young furniture makers. Its other charitable work includes lending a helping hand to those in need who have worked in the furniture industry, in the form of grants, services and time. We at Axminster are pleased to be able to work with and support such a highly regarded organisation” – Alan Styles
